Beach Day
It was a reserved morning, making myself at home in the living room drinking coffee when the children woke up. They came dashing downstairs still in their pajamas, racing each other into the kitchen where they messily and promptly made themselves a bowl of cereal. I couldn\’t help but to think and commemorate my own childhood, how me and my sister would do the same thing. Race each other down the stairs of our home, and into the kitchen.
I told them to stay quiet as their mother was still sound asleep, and as if on cue she came stumbling out of the bedroom, eyes still half shut as she readied herself a cup of coffee. It was the weekend, and I had a revelation for the kids, but in their current state of activity over nothing at all I concluded it would be best to keep it a secret until around noon time. That and I didn\’t want them to agitate their mother, who wasn\’t always a great morning person to begin with.
I had just turned on the television and the news came on as if also on cue. My wife loves checking out the nightly news, don\’t know why, they never have anything nice to say about anything and this morning was no contrary. Some war going on overseas, terrorist menace and aims, a local shooting and what not. Same old crap they bring up over, and over again. You would think that eventually the country would grow numb to it.
Before I had decreed to switch the channel though something engaging had come up. Guess that every once in a while the news media can do a story about something directly considerable. It was about the heat index, and the UV index and how your skincare could be in jeopardy. With how hot it was in the summer is was no joke, especially when you have kids, this stuff can get rather contemplative. They explained how using various kinds of moisturizer and skincare products can decrease your chances for skin cancer.
Without missing a beat I drove to the super market to get some skincare products, and some sunblock for the children. We were after all going to the beach. I want the children to have a lot of fun there, but also be safe. You really don\’t know what\’s out there these days.
